Admissions

Applying for a place at OSSMA

The academy admits students between the ages of 11-16. The Pupil Admission Number for year groups is currently 210, however, at the request of the local authority, the PAN for Y7 from September 2021 will be 240. The academy welcomes applications at any time, however, we encourage entry at the start of Year 7 to aid academic progression without interruption.

If you wish to apply for a place at the academy to begin in September of Year 7 you should apply to the Local Authority in the normal round of admissions by the end of October. You can do so by clicking here.

When students transition from Year 6 to Year 7, parents can apply to the Local Authority for a place at the academy for their child. If the academy receives more applications than it has places, then it will prioritise applications on the following basis:

  1. Looked after children – those in the care of the local authority
  2. Children who have siblings (see policy for specific definition) at the academy when the student is due to start
  3. Children of an existing member of staff of the academy at the time of the application
  4. Children who live nearest to the school as determined by a straight line measurement from the child’s home address to the main entrance of the academy. This is calculated for us by the local authority.

If your child has an Education or Health Care Plan they are not part of the normal application round. Instead, the EHC Plan will name the appropriate school or academy depending on the need. However, students with EHC Plans do count as part of the Pupil Admission Number.

If you wish to apply for a place at the academy in-year, that is to say, after the Year 6 into Year 7 application process has finished, you can make that application by contacting the academy and asking for an In-Year Admission form.
