In June, 43 students went on a trip to Belgium & France and visited Ypres and the Somme. In Ypres, they were privileged to go to Tyne Cot cemetery and Essex Farm along with visits to the original trenches at Hill 62 and the German cemetery at Langemark.
In the Somme region, they visited Beaumont Hamel, the site of the Newfoundland advance on July 1st 1916, Ulster Tower which commemorates Irish losses and the poignant Thiepval memorial, which lists 73’000 names of the missing at the Somme. Finally they laid wreaths at the Menin Gate during the Last Post ceremony.
