Firstly, a big thank you to all students for the hard work completed at home and the engagement with the online learning being set by teachers. Thank you to parents for supporting your child with their home learning and pushing them. We appreciate all your efforts and know how hard this has been. Thank you also for those of you that have completed the parental survey. The results of this survey were overwhelmingly positive, but they also contained some excellent feedback. One of your main concerns was not knowing what work your children had to complete and whether they were doing this work effectively and regularly or not. Trying to feedback to every parent regarding all 850 student’s quality of work and engagement was a logistical challenge but thanks to Miss Ramsey and Mrs Holland we think we have found a way!
Starting from Monday morning all students will receive an email to their OSSMA email accounts listing all work that has been set for them for the coming week. It will also highlight which work has not been completed the previous week. This email will be sent out every Monday morning and we would encourage you to log on to a computer with your son/daughter to look through the tasks set for the week and review any gaps from the week before. This will hopefully alleviate the concerns that many of you voiced in the survey. The decision to use student email addresses is one of logistics and security.
I am sure you have been watching and listening to the news this week regarding the decision to reopen schools across the country. As I mentioned earlier in the week, much of this affects primary schools in the initial instance but will also begin to affect secondary schools and academies such as our own in the near future. I will be publishing our plans to reopen in due course. The staff at OSSMA are desperately missing the students and want to return as soon as possible, but this will only happen when it is safe to do so. Next week we will be sending out another questionnaire to Y10 parents in the first instance asking you about your queries and concerns regarding the reopening of the academy and what barriers you may be facing and what we can do to help you. I would be grateful if you could take the time to complete this.
Finally, a reminder that the community has until midday Sunday to vote in the Staff Lip-Sync competition. Results will be published on Sunday afternoon on Facebook. Thousands of votes have been sent in by students (current and ex), parents and suspiciously a large number of staff as well! As voting currently stands it would appear that any one of a number of entries could win.
I hope you have a lovely weekend and please contact the academy if you have any concerns.
