On Saturday 17th March, 12 students from Years’ 8 & 9 competed in the local heat of the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition at Cannock Magistrates Court.
The students had been practicing a mock trial since January this year, taking on the roles of Lawyers, Magistrates, Witnesses and a Defendant.
Competing against two other schools; Sandbach High School and Clayton Hall Academy, in 3 rounds of trials, OSSMA took turns in being Prosecution and Defence.
The students were excellent at playing their characters, and took their roles very seriously. OSSMA came a very close second in the competition, just missing out to the winners Sandbach High School.
Hopefully this has raised some interest in pursuing law at a later date with the students involved, but it certainly helped to increase confidence with public speaking and understanding the respect of British law and its traditions.
Well done to all the students involved.
