Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA) has announced the appointment of Nick Brennan as its Acting Principal, as longstanding leader Mark Stanyer takes up a new role within Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) – the school’s sponsor.
Mark, who has served as Principal at OSSMA since 2010, has been an invaluable part of the Blurton community for more than 28 years both as a teacher and principal.
During his decade-long tenure, Mark has led the academy through numerous milestones and achievements. This includes most recently navigating the school and wider community through an unprecedented period with COVID-19 and ending his headship with the success of OSSMA being confirmed by Ofsted, which rated it Good with Outstanding features.
He is moving on to become Regional Executive Principal for OAT, a role which will put his experience and expertise to use by supporting numerous schools throughout the Trust.
Nick Brennan, who has been OSSMA’s Head of School for the last 18 months and integral to the successful leadership team, will be taking over as Acting Principal from September.
Mark Stanyer, Outgoing principal for Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA), said:
“OSSMA has always been a family, and it has been a privilege to lead such a talented, loyal and diligent group of people. Especially in the past few months, they have worked together brilliantly.
I would like to thank the staff, parents and of course the students, who have made my time at the academy so enjoyable over the years. I will always be a Blurton Boy, but I am excited to take on new challenges as part of Ormiston Academies Trust’s wider team, where I will still have the opportunity to closely support the school.
I am delighted to be leaving the school in the extremely capable hands of Nick Brennan, who has been an excellent Head of School during the past 18 months and will support the academy to continue on its successful journey.”
Nick Brennan, Incoming, Acting Principal for Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy (OSSMA), said:
“I am thrilled to be taking the reins as Acting Principal of the academy. During my time as Head of School, I have seen first-hand just how brilliant our students, staff and wider school community is and I very much look forward to working more closely with them in the months ahead.
We will, of course, miss Mark’s experience and expertise, and I would like to sincerely thank him for all he has done, not just for the school but wider school community.
The past few months have been undoubtedly challenging, and I look forward to working with the whole OSSMA family – from staff and students through to parents and governors – to ensure our return in September is as smooth as possible.”
Nick Hudson, Chief Executive Officer of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), said:
“Mark Stanyer has done a fantastic job at OSSMA over the last decade, and we are delighted that he will be bringing his skills and expertise to the wider OAT family.
I know that Nick Brennan will do a fantastic job at not only stepping into those shoes but ensuring the school goes from strength to strength. I know that the school community will show him the same support which Mark has enjoyed during his time at the academy.”
