Able pupils from years 9 and 10 visited Oxford University recently. They visited three of the 38 colleges which make up the University (Keble, Jesus and Brasenose). Each college is built around quadrangles where the students live, have tutorials, and eat in the most amazing dining rooms. Students were playing croquet on the lawn and dabbling in painting, as others relaxed on the grassed areas. We were lucky enough to have lunch in one of the 38 “Harry Potter style dining rooms”. Students described to us what it was like to be at Oxford and finally we did a treasure trove in Oxford so that the sites could be highlighted. It was a brilliant experience for our children and it will certainly have raised their aspirations.
