Social Science teacher, Mrs. Rhodes and her form 9RH are raising money for the Macari Centre in Hanley. The homeless shelter was opened by former Stoke City manager, Lou Macari and gives the opportunity for people who are sleeping rough to have a hot meal and a bed for the night.
Her form class, this week, held two cake sales to help raise funds for the Macari Foundation and Mrs. Rhodes has teamed up with the car dealership, George Rhodes and sons Ltd in Biddulph, to take part in ‘Stoke City’s Big Sleep Out’
The Big Sleep Out sees supporters of the charity obtain sponsorship to brave the freezing conditions and ‘bed down’ in the Q-Railing Stand concourse of the Bet365 Stadium. In return, supporters will be provided with a cardboard mat to sleep on, hot soup and beverages throughout the night and a hot bap in the morning.
Mrs. Rhodes said, “Although one night won’t represent the true extent of the challenges experienced by homeless people. I sincerely hope this gives an insight to their daily struggles.”
We wish Mrs. Rhodes the best of luck in her challenge especially as the weather is predicted to be cold and wet!
