Enrichment Rewards – My Day at the Garage

Posted on: January 27, 2017

Students have been busy collecting signatures from staff for all the extra-curricular and enrichment activities that they have been involved in since we launched the Enrichment Passport in September of last year. Those with lots of signatures have been rewarded for their hard work and commitment with various treats, including a shopping trip to The Trafford Centre.

One of our Year 7 students, Leon, chose, as his reward, to work in an MOT garage for the day. He was excited to tell us how he had found his experience:

On Tuesday 10th January I went to the garage, S Scalise & Son, as a reward for getting signatures in my enrichment passport. During my day there I learned how to do M.O.T tests on cars and how to plot the data on to the system.

First we did the M.O.T test on a car and then entered the data into the computer on what parts of the car had either failed, passed or what we have had to advise on. If some parts of the car failed we had to service them and fix what was wrong, but we gave advisories for things we were not allowed to fix.

In an M.O.T test, we check things like the wheels, the suspension, lights and beam aim, the brakes and the exhaust.

I had a lot of fun at the garage and hope to go again soon.”
