Youth Speaks Competition

Posted on: March 14, 2017

Three Year 9 students, Emily Birch, Ishaq Miah and Chloe Maskery, recently won the Rotary Club’s Stoke-on-Trent Youth Speaks competition with their fantastic speech ‘Holding out for a Hero.’ This qualified them to move onto the District Youth Speaks Competition.

Emily, Ishaq and Chloe competed against a range of schools from the North West Midlands and were delighted to be awarded ‘runners-up.’ They were commended on their confidence, eloquence and use of humour and were a credit to the academy and Stoke-on-Trent.

Rotary Club Committee Chairmen; Brian Astbury and Geoff Hillman later said:

We would just like to express the delight of Stoke Rotary at your outstanding team performance last night. The very professional and calm way that your team performed brought great credit to the pupils, yourself and the school, as well as Stoke on Trent.
We were amazed at the maturity and confidence of all the participants in your team and you should be justifiably proud of them. Such a performance is not achieved without a lot of hard work and good coaching and this brings you great credit.

We wish you well and good luck as you go forward to represent the District at the next level where I am sure you will do well.

Many thanks to you and your team for representing Stoke on Trent with such a high quality performance“.
